I have a 2002 toshiba crt hdtv and I got a call from a tv repairman saying he can buy the yolk from my tv for $20.00 but I have no idea what the yolk is lol. The tv is broken anyway so I am getting rid of it, but what is the yolk, and is $20 a good deal?

Thanks!!!

  1. A yoke is the assembly that fits on the neck of a CRT (picture tube) that steers the beam inside the tube.  A picture is worth a thousand words, so here's a picture:

    I hope this helps.

  2. Actually a $20 yoke is a pretty good PRICE ! Most of them run about $80.....

The Yoke's job is to BEND the thin light beam UP and DOWN <and> Left to Right to fill the entire screen with your picture....

If it's bad, you get a BENT PICTURE  <or> it makes so much noise rattling that you can't enjoy the audio due to the noise it makes....

Sometimes a shorted yoke will kill the TV entirely...no sound, no picture at all....
