I am going to be traveling to Honduras and I'm wondering if there are any modesty issues as to what is okay for women to wear? Also, how much makeup is normal?

  1. Women don't wear shorts unless it's at the coast. As long as you are modest with what you wear anything should be fine. I wouldn't take anything too expensive or valuable, though. As a foreigner you may be a target for theft if you look like you have too much money. It's very important to people (women especially) in Honduras to always look their best. Whatever that might be for each given situation. Have a wonderful time. Enjoy your trip.

  2. The several times I have been to Honduras I do not think I saw any local ladies ever wear shorts. Maybe some tourists. Most ladies wore jeans , dresses or skirts. In the highlands, the ladies wore pants/jeans and dresses. But overall the type of clothing I would say was conservative, but nice.

  3. The majority of woman don't wear make-up in the country  side, in the cities make-up is worn mostly by teens and woman who work. The mothers don't go to the mercado on Wednesday wearing their best clothing and make-up. But no one will look at you weird or with any ill-intent if you wear any, of course i'm assuming you wear tha natural things such as blush, eyeliner, lipstick, eyeshadow, ect and wear it naturally, not like a clown. As for clothing, anything is acceptable, as long as your actually wearing something. If you're half-naked the men won't mind, but like anywhere else in the world, woman would think you're... one of those woman who likes to get paid for her services, if you know what i mean.

Due to the heat and humidity people like to dress in shirts (no sweaters until night time when its cooler, but not too keep warm, as an accessory and such), shorts, capris, bermudas. The average woman will be wearing some type of t-shirt and shorts, a skirt, capris or pants around her house and around the barrio. At the mall you see woman dressed more casually.

You hardly have to worry about feeling out of place there, i travel to Honduras a couple of times each month since i have many friends and some family there. The people are wonderful, very inviting and extremely humble. Despite them not having much, the majority of Hondurans i know and have met would be willing to give their hearts and welcome others with such kindness, they are wonderful people.
