  1. I think it depends on where you're from.  Smaller towns say 15 % is fine.  Here in chicago its 20%.

And go down for bad service, up for good.

I expect no less than 20%.  But I bust my butt to make sure the guest has the best experience at my restaurant.  If I were giving less than my all I would expect less.

  2. There are sure to be some that will disagree, but you should start at 15% and go up or down depending on the service you receive.

  3. We tip at least 20%.  We round up.

  4. I'd be embarrassed, too. Just look at the other answers and you'll see that 15% is acceptable, but 20% is certainly standard for good service. If I were you, I'd make sure I carried extra cash so you can double his 10% when you two dine out.

  5. 15 % is the correct tip %

    DFF

  6. I don't think that's right.  I usually tip 20%, and I read an article today that Philadelphia is the highest tipping city with an average of 19%

  7. I know how you feel.  I have friends who refuse to even tip that much sometimes and man is it embarrassing...

    15%.  20% at finer eateries.

  8. 15 Per cent is right.

  9. Never tip under 20%.  If there is a problem speak with management, you can not be sure it is the servers fault and should not assume it is.  In arizona servers make only 3.00 an hour, we are expected to make at least 15% on every ticket and at the end of the night we are taxed off of 15% of our total sales.  If you leave less its like the server just paid you to waist their time.  My boyfriend also thought that 10% was a good tip, it took me years to get him out of that habit.  I would always have to carry cash with me and throw it on the table before we left.  10% is really more of an insult that a tip.

  10. Liz is absolutly right. i make $4 an hour, I depend on those tips. I am taxed ASSUMING I made 15% of my sales. It is all done by computer. Start with 15% and go up or down depending on service.

if you are frequenting the same places, watch out. we DO NOT like getting stiffed, and we let each other know who the cheapies are.
