Hi Mike, ad-hoc reporting is various other types of reporting that one might do in a given field.  For example, internal ad-hoc reporting might be providing some financial analysis that the CFO has requested in a certain area of the balance sheet.  External ad-hoc reporting might be responding to a government entity that is requesting data on a particular subject.  Hope this helps.
