  1. I adopted in California and her is what we had to do.

    1. Weekend intensive workshop with the counselors

    2. Adoption application which includes, a background check,

financial analysis, and a bunch of personal questions

regarding how your religion etc. You will need copies of

your birth certificates, marriage license etc.

    3. You have to get physicals

    4. A home study, which means they come and make sure

your house is safe, baby proofed, and that you have

enough room for a child.  Its not big deal.

    5. Create birthmother letters that go out to the birthmothers.

It tells about you and why you want to adopt.

    6.  Create a website for the birthmothers to look at.

I know a lot of people say that it is a hard process, but its really not.  Do some paperwork, get a physical, go down and get your fingerprints done, make sure your home is clean and safe for a baby, get some copies of vital records, do a letter, and a website.  Its pretty simple.  The process will go as fast as you go.  The faster you get everything done, the faster you will be on waiting list.

  2. Adoption domestic or International you need to hire accreditation  adoption agencies.  Many og them are fraud.  tell you what you want to hear. Look into goverment websites. American Embassies and go to ADOPTION.  You will find accreditaion adoption agencies list and learn every step to process an adoption in those website.

Find local Home-Study agency. Shop around for abeeter fee. Ask to talk to a social worker that they will sent to you.  If she is make you feel uncomrfortable then ask for someone else or try another agency.  Reseach on the Website what paper need for Home Study to get ready first or you can wait to hire them then start collect the paper that are need.

    Do not call fire department.

Just make sure the house has no objects to harm a child. The pool must has a gate and secure blocked.

Clean the house but if you are so organized they feel that you will up set with the child if the child mess with your stuffs which they will.  They need to feel  that you are ok with a child  upside down your plants and throws the toy everwhere in the house and not make you crazy.

Never sign adoption with non accreditable body.  You also can check with Hague Convention or International Adoption Laws even you adopt in US. If they are fraud with international adoption they will with domestic

    Good luck

  3. It really is different everywhere.  Start with your local DHS office, and follow their instructions.  We had no clue what the adoption process was like before we started.  We just did what we were told.  :-)

  4. I'm not sure if it is the same everywhere, but in Ohio here is how it has gone for us.....

    1. preservice classes, somewhere around 24 hours worth... not sure on the exact total

    2. application to agency

    3. application accepted

    4. home studies begin (4 overall)

    5. home inspection by fire dept

    6. physicals for everyone in the family

    7. background checks

    8. made a "family book" telling about our family for other social workers

    9. waiting for a placement.....

I'm sure this is different depending on the situation, but we have 2 boys already and are looking to enlarge our family. we weren't too specific other then wanting a boy(s) not girl(s).

    good luck!
