What is advantage on american culture norm on emphasis on promptness and time?

It is sign of respect if you are on time.  If you are continually late, you are saying that you don't care about the task or the people who are inconvenienced.

Can you Be a little more specific. Advantage to who? If you mean to other Americans then this would create a sociological American Norm that would promote Promptness and punish tardiness. It would be another factor of how to determine good employees from bad employees. It would even tell you who you want to be friends with or not to be friends with (you know when you don't like people who are late so you wont befriend them)
