  1. How about the documentary that was on Fox News the other day calling young people these days the dumbest generation!  I would think that would be ageism, might be the only time in my life that I was offended LOL


  2. Ageism is stereotyping and prejudice against individuals or groups because of their age. The term was coined in 1969 by US gerontologist Robert N. Butler to describe discrimination against seniors.

    Butler defined ageism as a combination of three connected elements. These were:

    • prejudicial attitudes towards older people, old age and the ageing process

    • discriminatory practices against older people

    • institutional practices and policies that perpetuate stereotypes about older people

    However, it can apply to any belief or attitude which incorrectly stereotypes any person(s) due to their difference in age

    This includes common beliefs that youths are immature and irresponsible.

    I'm sure we've all known teens who are far more mature than many adults we have to deal with every day.
