  1. Aikido is like ballroom dancing-you have to make sure your moves are in synch with your training partner, whether you're the uke or nage.  You even get to hold each others hands...

  2. Lies!!! ..... don't believe these people man.  Aikido has nothing to do with force.  It's all in the technique and never in such things as strength or speed..... just pure technique.

  3. aikido is designed for anyone to be able to use against anyone.  It is designed to redirect the energy given by your partner to be used against them.  It uses body mechanics to use forces against weak joints which causes your partners' bodies to respond to avoid breaking.  The only downfall for strong people is that it allows for sloppy technique to be hidden by powering the technique, where all of aikido should be able to be done with minimal force.  Aikido is an internal art where meditative focus is used to respond to the moment in real time (or as close to real time as you can achieve) Where technique is practiced until it becomes muscle memory and the active brain isn't needed to feel when the technique can be done.  It was developed off of the sword forms of iado and all of the techniques can be done with a sword in hand or with the hand itself.  It's founder  was at his most proficient at 76 which not only suggests it's viability but it's health benefits.

  4. Steven Segal is a 7th dan in Aikido. It's about using the person's momentum and weight against them using circular and harmonious movements.

  5. The two important forces used when doing Aikido are the force your opponent supplies and the force of gravity.

Muscle never hurts - its a great tool but a poor crutch to rely on is all.

That said, you can do Aikido if you are muscular or if you aren't.  Your Aikido will look different than a thin and flexible person but its still Aikido as long as the principles are applied.

Expect people to prefer throwing you rather than doing locks or holds.  You do what is appropriate the bigger the person is compared to you, the more likely a throw will present itself over say a wrist lock.

  6. Aikido is like ballroom dancing to translate directions to a heart surgeon.

It's like painting on a canvas to direct traffic.

It's like directing an orchestra with a live viper.

So if you feel you can do those things, you can probably do Aikido.

  7. it uses the force of your opponent and redirect its attack rather than the old striking methods. It use joint locks and throws.
