No, it think it is just aircraft spotting as long as you aren't on or close to airport property.

It has no "term" as it's just not that big a hobby in the US. Probably due to the size of the country, and the pervasiveness of General and Commercial (and possibly military) aviation.

I'm sure there are enthusiasts, but no where near the organization in the UK and Europe.
