We are going to Cabo and our hotel says all inclusive. What does that mean and exactly how does it work?

  1. It means you get food and drinks. Only domestic drinks though, so the local beer and tequila and stuff like that. The food can get boring because it's mostly buffet stuff so venture out to try some other places. Remember to reserve your a la carte dinners too, if the hotel offers them. You will get a wristband when you arrive and you'll get everything for free. Don't forget to tip your server!

  2. Usually means everything is free within the hotel grounds.  Like food, drinks, activities.  I went to an all-inclusive resort in the bahamas and we had free food, drinks, shows, and water activities.  Only certain things were at a cost like scuba and snorkeling, and any trips outside of the resort.

  3. It means just that....all inclusive.  Everything on the resort is included in the price...food, room, shows, etc.  The only thing you have to pay for is if you want a special drink, or if you want to do a special activity on site (say sea doo) or if you want to go on a tour off site, say going on a booze cruise to go snorkelling at Chileno bay.

  4. Staying at an all-inclusive resort usually means that you'll have a good time without having to leave the resort....everything you need and want should be there. This can also include a discotheque (club) and shopping, aside from the typical restaurants, buffets, and other activities.

Everything is not going to be "free," because you'll have to pay a flat rate for your stay there. However, while you are there, you should be able to get drinks for free (but you'll have to tip) and there should be a full service buffet where you can eat at most times of the day. Other activities like para-sailing usually cost extra, because you'll need to pay to rent the equipment.
