Question:

What is all the hype about sushi? I would only eat it if I were on an island, starving.?

I know that it is perceived as "trendy" and is not cheap, but if I were stranded on an island and had nothing to my name, what would I eat to survive? Raw fish! So why is it passed off as being so desirable? By the way, I don't like the taste and would only eat it if I were stranded and starving.

  1. To answer your question "Why are people getting so touchy about what I've said".

1)The majority of people who eat sushi do not do so because it is trendy. They do so because they like it. I am not sure of the marketing trap you speak of. I have never seen a commercial on TV pushing sushi, nor have I seen billboards advertising it. If there are such advertisements, they are certainly in the minority compared to McDonalds and Wendy's commercials etc.

You also say people  who eat sushi (stupid customers) are stupid. I'm not sure where you are from, but calling a large group of people stupid simply for eating delicious food will certainly result in a strong response.

2)Sushi is not only raw fish, so the basis of your argument (along with the "marketing trap" theory) does not stand up. Furthermore, if you are ever stranded on an island, I doubt you would have the resources to catch the types of fish used for sushi- you don't just throw a line in and catch a tuna. And even if you could catch desirable sushi fish, why would that need to make them undesirable. If there were bananas and mangos on this island, would people be stupid for eating these as well? By your reasoning yes.

For my part, I like sushi because I like it, not because I am stupid and saw an advertisement. Its fine that you do not like sushi, more for me, but I'm not going to call you stupid if you truly do not like sushi.

  2. What a nice rant, as opposed to a question.

Sushi is delicious and nutritious, as opposed to say McDonalds? That must be your food choice of preference.

  3. Well that's your OPINION.  I personally love the taste.  Not all of it has raw fish either.

  4. people have different and possibly more sophisticated tastes than yours perhaps.

some food doesn't have to taste like chicken to taste good.

  5. I'm pretty sure i would build myself a campfire and cook the fish before eating it.  But I agree that sushi has 0 appeal.

  6. Sushi is an acquired taste-meaning it's really for some people-but not for others. For those who love, they're bodies actually crave the unique taste of it--it's like none other, you can't eat something besides sushi and compare it to sushi-that's why people love it. There are several different flavors of sushi-some don't even include raw fish (try a vegetable one) and if you don't like sushi at all-that's ok-you can still hang with those who do, Japanese restaurants serve several meats and vegetables that are "normal" to American cuisine-they are more "natural" and less salted than Chinese food as well.

    Hope I helped.

  7. Sushi does not mean raw fish.  Sushi refers to the rice. Some sushi does have fish but there are several that don't.

  8. same here its tasteless to me and feels like rubber...my last choice of foods..i hope i dont get stranded:)

  9. not all sushi has raw fish. it's actually really great, imo. you should go and try a californian roll with a little bit of soy sauce.. you might change your mind!
