  1. The fastest is to incentive the build of refineries in all the world. There is enough petrol in the world to supply all the economies by 500 years but right now the refineries are on top of its capacity.

I do not believe in a "solution of force" where the army forces be an important tool of actions because this disincentive the extraction and processing of petrol for not-invaded countries.

The alternative resources of energy does not reach to cover an important portion of all market; this is a solution for very long run.

  2. TOTAL NUCLEAR POWER for residential and work use. No more need for Heating oil! of course we still need gas for cars, promote Diesel more since it gets better gas mileage

  3. put all meth heads on exercize bikes attached to electric generators around large cities

  4. Short-term is cut back on consumption. We're peaking our capacity now, so there is incentive to create more capacity.

Here lies the rub - if we want to go by cheapest cost per KWH, we build more coal plants. If we want renewable, we build lots of solar and wind, although these may not be enough given current levels of technology. Yes, wind and solar will eventually be cheaper (when the price of coal is bid up by demand) but financial models discount the distant future so that it doesn't make sense to build large-scale solar at this point.

  5. To stop using energy.  Of course that will not work so well.  Us average folks can only cut our energy us by a bit, we still have to heat and cool our homes, go to and from work/school/store, keep and cook food and such.  And worse, cutting energy is cutting happiness.

The government could make a big cut...and absorb the cost(for example tell Egypt that next year we won't give them the millions we normally give them).  Every wonder why the (federal, state, and local) governments if they care so much about all this, does not switch to energy friendly stuff?  They could...all mail trucks, for example.

It might not be the 'best' in a lot of peoples eyes....but a fast way to reduce energy costs would be to simply take the needed energy(fuel) by force.
