$1 US = 34.20 Dominican Pesos. Keep in mind that it doesn't mean that it's a lot of money there. It is not. The cost of living there is as expensive as here in America, if not more. So, even tho you might be paying in pesos it will pretty much equal to what you would spend if you what have bought the same thing here in US.

TIP: Always ask for bargain when shopping from the street. You are an American (gringo, which is NOT offensive by any means) and when they see you they are thinking "greens".

Well many already told you the rate exchange so no more talking about it.

What I would tell you is that eventhough dollars is not worth as much as an Euro it is still in high standard.

There is much you can do with 100 dollars there than 100 dollars in the USA in "most cases".  You just need to act accordingly and well manage your money.

What do you mean?  One dollar is always worth one dollar, no matter where you are.

If you get 34 pesos for one dollar what does this mean?  Nothing, these are just accounting units.  Whatever costs one dollar in the us, probably costs 45 peso in the DR, thus making the DR more expensive than the US.

BTW, the US dollar isn't woth much anywhere in the world except the US at present.  Nobody wants them at the moment because US dollars lose in value on a weekly basis.  Euros and Pounds are much stronger currencies.

The rate is 34 pero one but on the beach they use to paid you less than  that just to ripe the turist, they give you like 30 per 1

The exchange rate changes constantly but i can tell you that the last time i checked it was between 33 and 34 pesos. Check it daily if plan to go on a trip and shop around to change your money. If your a tourist though stick with the airport or a bank, its safer and you will be less likely to be ripped off.
