  1. Ammonia is a chemical that humans and animals release in their urine.  It has a foul, stinging smell, some cleaning liquids have it in them too.  The scent is strong and is harmful when inhaled.  So when horse stalls are not cleaned out they breath in the ammonia and it causes respiratory problems.

  2. It is in the urine of the horse...it smells very strong and can be harmful if the horses smell it too long.

    Good stall cleaning helps.

  3. Ammonia is a gas that is released when ammonium breaks down.  Ammonium is nitrogen combined with hydrogen, and is a waste excreted in urine.  Urea is the name of the waste that is formed when protein is metabolized for use by the body cells, and it is transported to the kidneys in blood. It then becomes ammonium which becomes part of the urine, and is excreted during urination. When it's allowed to stagnate outside of the body, ammonia is given off.  So, it is an end result, or end product, of what happens to proteins that the horse eats.

  4. its like a chemical. it smells like cat pee. and its not good to eat/drink/inhale. it has nothing to do with horses.
