  1. Sarah C's answer is correct.  Think of the word in its correct pronounciation and it should make more sense.  It is saying to yourself "a-ha!"

It's really hard to write an example that anyone can read and understand, because an a-ha! moment is really dependent on a person's own everything--experience, history, knowledge, etc.

Here's an a ha! moment that may be pretty well known in the US.  It's in the movie "The Sixth Sense." Remember it? "I see dead people...."  I know some people claim they understood the plot twist all along, but if you are like the majority of people seeing the movie for the first time, there is that precise moment when the wedding ring drops and you realize the Bruce Willis character is dead. It's that second when it dawns on you...Maybe you say "oh man..." (Maybe "oh,sh__!)

Poking around on the web, I found that Oprah is big on the "A ha!" moment, so that could be one thing to search on if you're still unclear. I bet my movie example will prompt other people to think of some other examples that are culture or media related.   Hope this helps!

  2. When something suddenly becomes clear. It could be something you've heard, but didn't understand or some mystery that's suddenly solved.

If you watch Monk, you'll see his face when he gets one.
