  3. American bulldogs where actually brought over from Britain in the 19th century. While the englsih bulldogs went on to be bred down to the size theu are now, the American bulldog kept its size and was used to work tough range cattle.

There where four distinct blood lines in the United States for the American bulldog, the two most prominant being Johnsons and Scotts line. They are both a large working bulldog but vary in a little in appearance. The johnsons have more of the steroe typical bully look (heavier, slightly shorter, short nose) while Scotts has a more athletic looking dog (leaner, longer nose) most american bulldogs out there today are a hybrid between the two. They range greatly in size from 19-27" and 60-120lbs and are not registered by the CKC

They are a very strong dog capable of pulling several times their body weight. As with many guardian breeds they need lots of early socialization. Especially with other dogs. They are loyal and very loving with their families and most have a special love for children

Johnson and Allen Scott. These are more commonly known as Classic or Bully type and Standard or Performance type. There are two distinct strains of American Bulldogs, Classic (Johnson, Bully) and Standard (Scott, Performance) which is often mistaken for its second cousin, the American Pit Bull Terrier because of its appearance, and ..... for more info visit... http://puppylounge.com/index.php?option=...
