  1. THOSE ARE 2 QUESTIONS !!!!!!

An HDMI cable is a DVI-D which also carries sound.

    1080p is progressive scan

    1920x1080

    1080i is interlaced scan

    1366x768

    DVDs are 480p

    640 x 480 or 720 x 480

    Cheapo-TV is 480i

    320 x 240

There is also 720p and 720i which is enhanced definition.

Its only been used in japan sparely, but took up popularity in the 2000s.

    720p

    1280x720

    720i

Never existed and if it is used, it refers to 480p

    2160p

    The next wave of HD

    4320p

    and another wave of HD

The interlaced is generally half of what the progressive in actuality. This is used to save bandwidth.

These is no known television transmission that does greater than 1080i. Only HD off of a disk is 1080p+.

The standard is digital so the resolution is actually negotiated with the tv, so the picture will be resized to your tv. An HDTV or HD ready has to support 1080i at full resolution. An EDTV has to support 720p and SDTV is limited to 480i.
