  1. HOA stands for homeowners association. you pay monthly for community pools and spas in your housing track or tennis courts, golf courts, trash pickup etc. you pay the association for taking care of everything and keeping it clean

  2. homeowners association fee, or a condo fee. it's charged monthly and usually covers insurance for the common property, maintenance, trash pick up and often some of the utilities such as heat and/or water.

  3. Home Owners Association fee. The other answers concentrated on HOA for condos. Actually, some neighborhoods of single-family (detached) homes may also have HOA. In those cases, the HOA fee cover the common grounds such as the pool, tennis courts, club house but not for trash pick up or street maintenance. Those are handled by the town/city.
