  1. One that has two different alleles for a genetic trait.

    Lets say for simplicity that a plant has 2 possible genes that control height.  Tall(T) and short(t).  Each plant has 2 alleles for the trait of plant height, one from each parent.  Tall is dominant over short.  A plant with a T from one parent and a t from the other (Tt), would still be tall and would be said to be heterozygous since it carries both T and t.

    TT and tt would be examples of homozygous.
