What is an Ice shot exactly?

whats the deal with the shot where you have a large block of ice and pour the alcohol down the ice and drink it at the bottom? details anyone?

It chills the vodka on the way down to your shot glass, looks fancy schmancy, and they can charge you a c**p load for it, because it looks "cool".

I saw it on "How It's Made"...pretty neat!
