I want to get a job selling cars on the Internet with Toyota or Honda, or another well known company. What exactly is a good job description of an Internet auto sales person? I have no idea what I'm getting into, and I need a good idea of what they do. Is it easier to sell cars online and less stressful because you don't deal with your customers face to face? Please tell me anything about the job? Full credit to best answer.

  1. Internet salespeople take leads generated frmo email, company websites, dealer websites, and online ads.  You work those people instead of taking ups on the lot.

The good thing about internet sales is that y ou are not out pounding the pavement waiting for someone to show up.

The bad part is that it takes a lot more work to make one deal.  And when you do make a deal, it is always a low-profit deal.  Internet shoppers are contacing a dozen dealers at teh same time.  You are in a constant battle to beat price, and build some kind of value with a customer with whom you have never even shaken hands.

Internet customers tend to care about one thing only - whats your best price.  IN face-to-face sales, you have an opportunity to get to know your customer.  You get to work with them to find out waht they want, need, and can afford.  To me, it is less stressful that way.  When I just have an email address, and a guy hammering me for price only, that is a lot more stressful than actually SELLING the car, the store, and myself.

You chase a lot of false leads.  You get a bunch of people who filled out an interest form at a kiosk at the rodeo, hoping to win a new truck - not really interested in BUYING one.

So it can be frustrating too.

If you do go into an internet sales department, make sure you have an aggressive pay plan.  Look for a place that offers a flat comission on every deal - hopefully more than $150.   because if you are paid off gross like the guys out on the line, you will starve to death.
