What is an RJ45 connector that only has 4 wires?

Here are the specifics of the pinouts:

pin# : color

1 : Black or White

2 : Yellow or Green

3 : Orange or Black/White Striped

4 : -

5 : -

6 : Green or Orange

7 : -

8 : -

I have two cables of the same color. The third is the longest and of the second color combination. But they all have the same wiring. It can't be this is a patch cable or a crossover cable can it? Or is it a common cable for a proprietary use? I'm having trouble finding out what they are as the cabling has no indication of what they are on the outer insulation. I'm not too terribly versed in the terminology of these types of cables so please forgive if I get terms wrong.

  2. Technically, it could be a patch cable or a crossover cable.  Only two pairs of wires are used for network communications.  But it sounds like it might just be a phone cable with RJ-45 ends.
