What is an acceptable offer to a $300k-priced house?

We can afford about $270k, but don't want to be too insulting by offering too low. We are looking at houses in the southern NH region, where the market hasn't suffered as badly as in other places in the country. Most of the houses we like tend to be from $280k-$300k and want to know if there is a general guideline for making decent offers on houses in that price range which might be accepted.

  1. You always go in low and then go higher if they say no but only to what's comfortable for you low bid them and don't worry about insulting them, it's a buyers market right now

  2. That isn't too bad, I wouldn't discourage you from making that offer if I was your Realtor.

Whether it is accepted is another issue.

    Good luck!

  3. What did your realtor say?

It's free to offer - if they say no - it's just something they'll laugh at or talk about at parties but you'll never have to hear it. So just do it.

On the up side they could be desperate and say YES!!! then you'll have the great story for the party!

We purchased our $330 home in Denver for $272 - it took four days of negoitations but totally worth it.

  4. Go after it! You never know...

  5. Be honest, tell then 270 is all you can afford. If you mess them around they won't take you seriously anyway.

  6. That isn't that bad. Probably won't get you anywhere on a house that JUST went on the market though.
