What is an aftermarket head unit?

I have two 12" JL w3's and someone told me that i need aan aftermarket head unit to fully power them.

  1. Ant car stereo you buy in a store - hence aftermarket

    The problem is someone told you wrong. You don't NEED a new deck, but it would help.

    You REALLY need an amp to push those.

Aftermarket is anything you buy for your car not made by the manufacturer.  You don't really need to go aftermarket.  You can get a HI/LOW converter from anu stereo shop and still hook up some amps to your deck but you won't have the control of the sound that a good aftermarket unit will give you.

  3. Simply an aftermarket stereo(deck).

    You DO need one, simply to make it SOOO much easier to hook up the 250 watt (min.) 1000 W. MAX. 2- channel amplifier to push them !
