What is an airborne wind mill? is it in use anywhere in the world today?

i also want know it's working, principle, n wen it was established?....plz...i gotta do a project on it....help me!

  1. no there is no such thing as an airborne windmill. airborne means not touching the ground in any way. is someone pulling your leg or perhaps ours.


  2. It is a windmill generator operating aloft from a kite, helicopter or blimp.  It is a concept and there are none in existence today.

    The advantage is that winds aloft are nearly constant.  No tower construction needed

    The disadvantage is - Nearly constant is not always constant - Kites would comedown if the wind died.  Also, there would have to be an electrical cable to carry the generated energy.  The longer the cable the heavier it is and the more lifting capacity is needed.  Very long cables from very high turbines would also be a danger to aircraft.

    Still there are several projects underway to tryout some of these concepts.
