What is an appropriate age for a cell phone (for a girl, at least)?

I really want a cell phone and I've been trying to convince my parents. All of my friends have had cell phones since 4th grade and I still don't have one and I am a Freshman. I was thinking a nice cell phone that has a texting keypad, but isn't too expensive. How do I convince my parents? What is the best texting cell phone for a fair price? What do you think is an appropriate age for a cell phone? And once again, how can I get them to let me get one?

  1. say that if any thing were to happen bla bah bla and that if i needed to go to a friends house to do a project than i could txt u bla bla bla

tht work for me... plus i told my aunt and she got me a pay as u go so

what ever a fones a fone

who cares worst thing happends u get a job and

    buy your own phone

  2. I think 13 but only for emergencies. I know you want one but every parent has heard of teenagers running up a ridiculous bill. My friends all had one and one of them rang it up to $700, my little brother in law rang his up to $750. I dindnt get a cell until i was in junior year and I payed for it myself so i kept track of all my minutes.

  3. I got a cell phone the summer before 8th grade, but every family has different rules, etc etc. to convince your parents, do a little research on your family's cell phone service thing to find out if there are free night/weekend minutes then promise to use those most of the time. thats what i did =]

they might tell you that you should get a job so as to pay for it yourself, which is fair, but kinda annoying for a teenager haha.

thats all i got, hope i helped =]

  4. Start her off at grade 6 but have it parented monitored... but since u are in the 7th...

I show them that the're daughter is responsible

    Kiss there *** :Df

  5. just beg them! ur way to old not to have one, i got mine wen i was in 7th grade and its a sidekick slide a $300 phone

  6. id say 12

  7. age for first fone probably 12 or 13

good cell fone is LG enV2 for $79.00

    Samsung Alias for $99.00

    LG Voyager for $99.00

  8. As pay phones become extinct younger children are needing to rely on cell phones to keep in close contact with their parents.  Use this.  As for the texting you do not need that feature.  As while it is a popular activity many young people are ignoring their studies to send text messages while in class.

Do your homework as far as cell phone cost and present your argument to your parents.  Also look into prepaid phones as many young people are running up extreme cell phone bills by not paying attention to additional charges.  Ask for a certain amount of minutes each month.  If you talk them up in 2 days you are just out of luck until next month.

  9. hey u seem rly cool, i m a freshman too, and my parents won't let me have one....even if i beg...i just use my dad's sony ericsson.

i would tell you some phones, but i don't know wut phone provider you have (at&t, verizon, sprint, alltel, ect.)

if u have a facebook, then add me...rutvik joglekar...

  10. YOUR A FRESHMAN AND YOU DONT HAVE A CELL PHONE! omg you need one. and not just to like text and call friends! for emergency purposes! like if your at school and you need a ride home or something. you should get unlimited texting, well if you have verizon anyway, its pretty cheap. the phones that have keypads are... the enV, the enV 2, the glyde, the dare and the voyager. well thats for verizon idk what plan you have but GIRL you need a phone!!!!!!

  11. my friends had them since 4th grade 2 and im in 5th they said i can probaly get 1 when i get to middles schoool id say 11 and up but they have texing keypads that run like $125 also u can still get some the text 4 about $29 my mom has one 4 $29 with camera, internet, texting iming and more that would be a GREAT starter! convince them that cells are cheaper now a days Good luck! p.s. (my mas cellphone provider is at&t)!

  12. I'd say that cell phones are good for 6th grade in case of emergencies but for actual "call and text" use 8th grade is. High school is defintely when you should get a nice phone, unless ur parents cant afford it. You have to remember that they are pretty expensive.

I have an LG shine. Its a really good phone, its pretty, and its so easy to figure out. It costs about $100 so its a really good deal. its really easy to text with the LGshine but it doesnt have a texting keypad. I personally think after trying both that the LG shine is actually easier to text with than the sidekick (which has a keyboard). My phone service is AT&T. Trust me, thats the best service. I get way more bars then all my non-AT&T friends
