Question:

What is an appropriate gift amount for a baptism?

Ok, we received a check for $250 from one of our closest friends for our sons baptism. We thought it was excessive and returned it with a letter thanking them for being there. The wife is currently living in Vegas so she had to make a special trip to OC. All in they spent some good cash just to make it. Our living circumstances are above good, so we really didn't need the money. Any Thoughts?

  1. It's considerate of you to send it back if they are not that well off. $20 to $50 is appropriate enough.

  2. Depends on your religion/church BUT:

Normally a traditional baptismal gift is a prayer book or communion cup.

This business of turning the baptism ceremony into some sort of birthday come baby-shower is almost sacreligious.

  3. I think sending it back was INCREDIBLY rude
