'Alarmist' is obviously not an appropriate term for someone who simply accepts the scientific evidence and reality that humans are the primary cause of the current global warming.

I don't really like that term and I've been trying to find a more appropriate one. The 'skeptics' sometimes use the term 'warmers', which I don't think is very accurate either. We don't warm things any more than skeptics do.

How about the terms 'realists' or perhaps 'anthropogenists'? What do you think the most appropriate term is?

  1. Smart, Intelligent, open-minded, reasonable, etc

  2. intransigent

  3. Zealot, believer, faithful, follower, alarmist, are a few that come to mind.

  4. Environmentalist.

Yes Heretic, exactly.  We need to sacrifice now for the earth or the earth is going to sacrifice us.

  5. Absolutist. I've not come across one that will admitt that the science may be wrong. On an issue we have so little understanding of it is exceedingly arrogant to exercise this amount of certainty. Another good name might be liberal. I know of not one liberal who is skeptical about AGW.

  6. Given the scientific reality of AGW is AGW is unfounded, I'd have to say the appropriate term is "skeptic".

If you mean those who support AGW theory...

    Supporters, Proponents, Subscribers, Theorists....

  7. Climate realist

  8. 'Proponents' is good, it is neutral and should be acceptable to both sides as it is not loaded.  I suspect though that the 'sceptics' or 'deniers' will want to continue to continue to use a loaded term like 'alarmist' and I can see no way of stopping them unfortunately.  (I must admit that I tire of the juvenile tactics of the deniers on this forum, but name calling will get me nowhere)

  9. 'GW Member'  or  'GW Follower'

  10. Alarmist is being polite. I categorize these folks in the same group who believed in the "scientific reality" of the imminent Ice Age predicted in the 70,  those who believed in the "scientific reality" of the Swine Flu  Pandemic of the 70's and the Avian Flu of this decade, the same people believed in the "scientific reality" that there was no such thing as the Mountain Gorilla and that the Coelacanth went extinct 6 million years ago.  All of these were "Scientific Realities" not to long ago and yet to date all were proven wrong.

  11. Yajnas

  12. AWARE

Road hazard is repeating the same rubbish about the cooling predicted in 1972.

Yes it was a theory based on about two scientists.

The lead scientist  Hanson I believe is his name, recanted in 1975 and said he had underestimated the amount of CO2

    Case closed

  13. Scientist.

    Or "someone who accepts science".

Frank - The reason I put skeptics in quotes is that all good scientists are skeptical.  A very few are skeptical about global warming, even.  But the people here are not being skeptical, they're simply denying data and science.
