During the school year he is in bed no later than 8:00. Should I keep him in that routine or should he be allowed to stay up as late as he wants?

  1. whenever the nyquil kicks in

  2. some leeway is ok... like staying up til 9 or so.... but with my kids? it's easier to get them BACK to schedule in the fall when we've stuck close to it during the summer too.... of course, i'm not inflexible about it either... we stay up late to camp, watch movies.... just not EVERY night!

  3. It is summer when he needs sleep he will go to sleep.

Let him stay up he will fall asleep when his body needs it.

  4. I wouldn't let him stay up as late as he wants but I would let him stay up a little later like until ten or so. I would base it on what all you have going on and what your plans are for the next day.

  5. My daughters bedtime has remained 8 pm ... If we are out doing something special then its ok if we pass her bedtime.. but the next day its straight to bed at normal time.

Keeps them on routine and when summers over.. you don't have the headaches of bringing them back to the routine.

  6. School Days= 8:30-9:00

    Summer= 9:00- 9:30/9:45

But most 7yr olds usually get sleepy around 9ish

  7. During the school year, bath and bed by 8:00.  If he/she needs wind down time, let them read a book for 1/2 hour.  Nothing as wonderful as being all clean and cuddled in bed with a good book.

  8. i would say school year at anywhere between 8:00 and 9:00 because of homework and stuff and for summer around 10:00 is a good time cuz if u do not have plans the next day he can sleep in later but if u have something u have to do the next day he could go to bed earlyer

  9. my daughter is 7-8 next week.  During school she goes to bed at 8 because we wake about 5:30-6.

She is still going to be the same time because we still get up the same time and she goes to day care.

On days she isnt going she is aloowed up till 9 and sleepovers till 10.

  10. during school I think that bedtime is great to have(8) and maybe in the summer you can allow him to stay up until 9 (or if one of his fav shows comes on a little late you could let him stay up long enough to watch it and then bed) but I would say as a definate bedtime...9 is good because its not too far off the original school bedtime and its not too late which won't cause im to be exhausted by the time school starts back up

  11. even if theres no school, he shouldnt be in later than nine or nine thirty

nothing worse than a cranky and tired kid in the morning :)

  12. It should be later in the summer then start back with the school bedtime about 2 weeks before school starts.

  13. Of course not as late as he wants. My kids are 7 & 9 and school year it is 8:00 as well. Summer time it is 10:00 tops, but I work as an EA so I am home with them and they can sleep in. If they still have to get up early and go to daycare etc. I would say 9:00 tops.

I also start back to our school schedule 2 weeks before school starts to help them adjust.

  14. anywhere from 8-8:30 is best in my opinion
