Question:

What is an appropriate wardrobe for a Kindergartener?

Is it true that in Kindergarten, wardrobe is not so important because the other kids don't notice or understand what others are wearing? My firstborn is going to Kindergarten soon and I'm wondering what I should keep well kept for her to wear to school. What she's wearing this summer is basically a mess now so I know I have to do some shopping. But, I don't have the slightest idea how many outfits she should have, how many pants, tops, dresses - or do girls wear dresses to school at all these days? I know it doesn't have to cost alot -- but I don't want to go overboard, yet I want her to be on par with her peers. Most people in this school district are middle income and strugging with the increasing cost of everything too - what are your plans, what do you think?

  1. Have you asked the school? We have school uniforms here, and the girls must wear dresses unless they are playing sports that day. My nieces and nephews wear jeans and nice shirts, but rarely shorts (the a/c is always on in school it seems!).

  2. ok. so i guess you should just dress her in cute pants and shirts and stuff. kids in kindergarten dont care what the other kids wear! they care about having fun so i dont mean you should use her as barbie but dress her up the way you like if she doesnt care. if she does care, let her have at it! and yeah, dresses are okay but nothing too short. or frumpy. little kids just like comfy stuff hope this helped!

  3. In kindergarten the kids do a lot of messy art activities. Do not buy white!!! I think the most important thing is to take your child into consideration - does she like dresses? If she does then buy her a couple .... does she prefer jeans or stretchy pants? Can she do the zip and snap on jeans herself?

Around here, the kids do not worry about the 'brand' of your clothes until they are older. She will need a pair of sneakers for gym.

This is what I do - I go to a 2nd hand store for jeans. I have 4 girls 10 and under. I buy their tops when I see them on sale - Children's Place, Target, Kohl's' or JCPenney.

  4. The children's place has a ton of cute clothes for girls.  Many are mix and match.

  5. I always try to find things that will transition from warm weather to cold weather.  For example, cute tops that you can layer a long a plain long sleeve top under later.  Denim skirts/skorts you can put thick tights and boots on with when fall comes.  I wouldn't do too many dresses as girls her age aren't great about being ladies at recess.  I always try to have about 5 or 6 bottoms and 12 to 14 tops for school.

For girls it is actually pretty easy.  You don't have to get really expensive things for them to look nice for school.  My daughter likes those little girly polo shirts that you can get at walmart for like 4 or 5 dollars a piece.  If you stay away from stuff with licenced characters and get those cute screen printed t-shirts you can usually get those pretty inexpensively too.

  6. shop at macys&target

  7. my little boy is going to kindergarten this year and we went to the mall and got him 10 outfits and a new pair of shoes and this weekend were going to go and get a few more pairs of pants for him to wear. you cant ever have to many clothes for them to wear. We spent a little over 300.00 on him this school year and i dont think that is over doing it i want my son to look nice.

  9. Most schools don't allow flip flops or spaghetti strapped tops. Make sure they have good comfy shoes for playing outside at recess and PE.

  10. i would say get a few bottoms depending on the weather where you live like maybe 3 pairs of basic colored shorts, a pair of jeans, and a couple of other pairs of long pants. you can get some cute inexpensive tops for her and yes a lot of people still wear dresses and during the winter jumpers with turtle necks and leggings under
