  1. A research design is an archaeologist's objectives or plan of campaign before fieldwork begins. It consts of 4 components:

    a) Research Strategy

    b) Collecting & Recording of evidence

    c) Processing & Analysis of that evidence

    d) Publishing the results

  2. example:  reconstruct the trajectory and character of material life in a particular archaeo site.  the research design contains three geographic scales of analysis, consisting of the region, community, and site.  a main objective of the research design is to reconstruct medium interval historical and cultural processes within the study region thru analysis of communities and individual sites.

    at site level, replicate and refine use of time sequence analysis.  explore landscape change that occurs among successive occupations of a site or dwelling inhabited by lineal families.   these efforts provide opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students to gain research experience in historical archaeology.
