    Arcadia was known for being a very pastoral area in Greece that was idealized as a sort of paradise in poetry full of simple but joyful people who were not corrupted by city life. Virgil set some of his Eclogues (short rustic poems) there. And Nicholas Poussin famously painted some scenes of Arcadia with a tomb inscribed with the phrase "Et in Arcadia ego," which mean "even in Arcadia I (death) exist," in other words, even among the happiest people death exists.
