I have a question, please use easy English because I am 10 years old.

Each element has an atom, right? For example, helium is made of atom. How many atoms are in each element or each element has only one atom?

Why we have protons as positive charge, What does it mean by positive charge? What does neutron mean by negative charge? What does electron mean by no charge? Basically, what are these charges? Please give an example so I can understand.

I don't know why they have charges, is it electric charges or some other kind of charges, please give an example.

  1. Elements are made up of atoms.Atoms are the smaller units of an element. The chemical properties of elements are derived from the atoms.

The three fundamental particles of an atom are; Protons, Neutrons and Electrons.

Protons are +ve charged and have a mass of 1.They are found in the nucleus.Electrons are negatively charged and they orbit around the nucleus. They have a mass of 1 over 1840.

Neutrons are nil, they have a mass of 1 and are found in the nucleus. An atom is classified according to its number of protons and neutrons.

The general rule is that everything wants to maintain equilibrium and have the lowest potential difference.Positive and negative are a lot like hot and cold; they are opposite, and they cancel each other. Positive and negative will be attracted to each other so they can have the smallest difference of charge possible. The particles have a property that attracts and repels based on something which we have arbitrarily defined as a "charge". The "charge" behaves according to certain rules, and it is best described in terms of positive and negative terms.

  2. an atom is the smallest element in a particle
