  1. The biggest factor is how much you plant on eating out vs grocery.  My wife and I eat at home almost every meal but 1 or 2 a week.  We spend about 100 a week at the grocery.

  2. You can try 5 dollar foot long @ sub way!! lol u can cut it in half n share it thats wat i do all the time lol ^_^

  3. that all depends on what you like to eat. if you eat alot of meat processed foods, fresh foods ect. you need to sit down together and make menu's that you both like and then make shopping lists and take it from there.

  4. What do you currently spend for the 2 of you?

It all depends on what you eat.  Family of 2 on Prime Rib with the fix'ns is tons higher than a family of 2 eating soup and sandwiches.  It also depends on the prices in your area.

Start a garden, you'll save money on your produce that way.

  5. First, I want to say to Hootie that your comment wasn't very nice.

In answer to the question:  Most of the above posters have the right idea.

One of the things I do is to make a menu for the week.  I check my cabinets to see what is there, then I check the sales papers to see what is on sale and make my menu from that.  I also keep a list on my refrigerator of the basic need items that I'm out of or almost out of.

When you find things that are a really good bargain, buy several and store them in your cabinets.  It will save you money later.

My husband and I spend on average $30-$40 a week, but I have been known to spend as little as $20.

Someone else made the suggestion of growing a garden.  That is great advice!  If you don't have room, or the equipment to make a full fledged garden, containers work very well.  Tomatoes and cucumbers are VERY easy to grow, and as the previous poster indicated, this helps on your produce bill.  And we all know that the price of produce has gone thru the roof just like gas prices.  I was in the grocery on Sunday and saw a cucumber for $1.19 EACH. ONE cucumber plant will grow 20 times more...and seeds are cheap.  Also, I realize that for some, gardening season is almost over, but in the south....you still have time to grow some things.  I have had tomatoes and butterbeans as late as Thanksgiving!

I hope this helps....and good luck to you and your husband.

  6. Depends on what you normally eat.  My boyfriend and I budget about $350 per month and rarely hit that high.  We rarely eat out though.

We eat meat for dinner about every other day, cereal for breakfast, PBJs or ham sandwiches for lunch with some fruit and a salad

You just have to only buy things when they're on sale and use coupons.  It's easy to eat cheap if you can either sacrifice some things or shop frugally.

  7. Weekley 75 dollars

    Monthly 385 dollars

  8. To the person that said monthly of 385... What a load!! I can feed my family of FOUR for less than that! You must be going out to eat all the time and order the pricest things on the menu for that much! For my family of four I spend about $70-$120 at the grocery store (and that's including diapers for my 3 months old!). so I would imagine for two it would be CONSIDERABLY less.
