  1. Easting is the distance travelled or the angle of longitude measured eastward from either a defined north-south grid line or a meridian.


  2. Do you mean East on a map?  Always remember this as you hold the map.. the north is the top  the south is the bottom  the west is on the left and the east is on the right...

  3. if the map is made on a graph paper then usually the left hand bottom corner is the origin of the map. all other points on the map r placed in reference to the origin.

    all points will be to the east of origin and hence EASTING

    and similarly all the points will be North of origin hence

    Northing.

    So terms EASTING and NORTHING.
