I'm doing a presentation on Chinese dessert and I need to explain one Chinese dessert that I would share with the class. I thought almond cookies would be good, but I can't find a whole lot on almonds and why they are used in Chinese food. What would be an easy Chinese dessert that contains elements with historic value?

  1. Google books and wikipedia may help you.

  2. I would definitely suggest the mooncake, which is a popular, authentic Chinese dessert, with a lot of history. It was used during the Ming Revolution as a way to secretly send messages, they would put notes into the cakes. There are different variations on the Moon Cake, and it's usually eaten during the Mid-Autumn festival. Fillings include red bean paste, yellow paste, and a dried egg yolk. If you want to try to buy them, go to your local Chinatown/Chinese community and find a Chinese/Vietnamese bakery or Asian Grocery Store where you can buy them (They are usually in a tin can in Chinese Grocery stores)
