I'm in year 7 (first year of Australian high school) and my method is to make a summary of my text books then to read over the summary. Are there any other good ways to study for exams???

  1. Making summaries is good

however i try to combine sheets given to me in class, exercise book notes and textbook notes into my summary so i have all the information that is most important..

Then usually i slowly make my notes smaller and smaller, as in do various copies of my notes, each becoming more and more summarised and brief..

so by the end of it when you read one small syllabus point all the information you wrote previously comes straight to thought

However it really depends on how you study best, everyone is different.. you can try talking about it with your parents or siblings.. even if they don't understand you, saying stuff out loud forces you to crystalise your thoughts.

Also do heaps of practice questions, sheets, essays..whatever!

i think those Excel books have them?

    Hope this helps!

  2. You can't study for them at the last minute, the best preparation is to be working from the start.  But you know that of course.

Do you have lectures and take notes?  Take good notes.  Review them, then save them.  Then before the exam look over them again.

Summarizing chapters of the text books is also a good idea.  Very systematic.  Both ideas are just reviewing what you hopefully should already have learned and understood. You are just refreshing your memory.

When I was in high school (about 100 years ago) we had study guides.  They were a series of questions, like exam questions.  You'd read them and if you knew them, fine, if not you could look up the answers.  And though they weren't really exam questions, if you could answer them you could do well on the exam.  I don't know if kids today have them but they were a great help in studying.
