I have installed linux on my ps3, and in order to connect to the internet it asks me for an ethernet adapter. I'm not even sure what that is, but i have no problems connecting to the internet through my laptop or my ps3 to play games online.

  1. Ethernet Adapter, it is your network card, which requires drivers to work.  Also call a NIC card (network interface card).  Ethernet is the topology.

So without an ethernet card, where you plug in your RJ45 jack in your computer from you DSL or cable modem, you will have no working internet.

You have to have a working ethernet card on your machine whether wireless or wired.

  2. The ethernet adapter is the place where the network cable plugs in.

My thoughts are that if you installed Linux on a PS3 and you don't know what an ethernet adapter is, that might not have been a good choice.
