  1. How ancient do you mean.  If you want to go as far back as how members of our race, homo sapiens, were still so primitive, they were only a few generations evolved from the origin of our species, then these are what I know about the creative ability of these members to develop the specializations necessary for survival.   They realized that survival depended on group participation to provide food. As the larynx developed, and was used to create sounds that became primitive language, they had a way to communicate abstraction.  Thought, and communication provided the impetus for the growth of our brain.  The use of fire was a comprehension that was sorta serendipitous.  But it was a very important factor.  So, going as far back to what I know about how we specialized for survival, this is my contribution.

  2. Specialization is when different castes and jobs are created within a particular society.  The ancient Egyptians are a good example.  Priests, merchants, artisians, workers, and slaves are different types of specializations.

  3. there were warriors, craftsmen, peasants, hunters.

  4. do you want specilization in cultures like farmers, hunters, tradesman, etc. or are you looking more broad band such as subsistence patterns, trade patterns, etc?
