What is an extention for .max file?

i am having 1 file that i can't open it, & that is urgent.i had never saw a file whose extention is (.max)please give me an answer that which file .max extention support

.max is extention of 3d max its a 3d animation file if u want to open this file u have to download 3d studio max it can be avaliable on net but remember u can't open this file in anyother program  for this you req. 3d max u can download 3d studio max as a demo version from the net then open your file in that it will work if still facing any problem contact me i'll be here for that....
