  1. table scraps

  2. Here's some dog treats that are easier than most:

    Dog treats #1:

    3/4 cup hot water

    1/2 cup powdered milk

    1 egg, beaten

    1/4 cup margarine

    1 teaspoon garlic powder

    3 cups whole wheat flour

Preheat your oven to 325 degree F. In a large mixing bowl, pour the hot water over the margarine, then stir in the powdered milk, garlic powder, and egg. Mix it together.  Add the flour and mix it well. Knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes. It should be very thick.  Roll it out to about 1/2 inch thick and cut out shapes with a cookie cutter.  (Use a bone shaped cookie cutter if you have one.) Place them on a greased cookie sheet and bake for 50 minutes. Allow them to cool and dry out until hard.  Once they are cold and hard, store them in an airtight container.

    Dog treats #2:

3/4 cups hot beef or chicken broth or meat juices

    1/2 cup margarine

    1/2 cup powdered milk

    2 teaspoons sugar

    1 egg, beaten

    3 cups whole-wheat flour

Pour the hot water over the margarine in a large bowl. Stir in the powdered milk, sugar and egg. Add the flour, 1/2 cup at a time, mixing well after each addition. On a lightly floured surface, knead the dough for 3 to 4 minutes, adding more flour if necessary to make a very stiff dough. Pat or roll the dough to 1/2-inch thickness, and cut into desired shapes. Place them on greased baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 50 minutes. Turn off your oven and leave the cookies in the oven and allow them to dry out at least 3 hours until they are hard.

    Dog treats #3:

1-1/2 cups cooked, boned and skinned chicken or turkey

    1 large egg

    2 tablespoons regular-strength chicken broth

    1 cup cornmeal

    1/2 cup whole-wheat flour

Process the chicken, egg and broth in a blender or food processor until smoothly pureed. Scrape the mixture into a bowl and add the cornmeal and the flour; then stir together until it's well moistened. Cover the dough and refrigerate until firm enough to handle, at least 2 hours. On a lightly floured board, roll out dough to about 1/4 inch thick. Cut it into 1/2 inch squares or triangles. Place them slightly apart on greased cookie sheets or baking sheets. Bake at 350 degrees about 15 minutes, or until golden around edges. Remove them from oven and let them cool in the pans. Refrigerate in an airtight container up to 2 weeks, or freeze for longer storage..
