  1. Internshios provide a "sampling" of a real job. They offer scaled down responsibilities & pay (sometimes even unpaid), and generally run for a finite window, for example during one summer vacation. They are a great way for students to test drive a job/company and see if they like it. And they are a great way for the companies to tes drive potential employees, once they graduate. One common way to get internships is to apply for them just like regular jobs, on employment Web sites.

  2. I have had quite a few internships! Basically you get to spend time at a place that interests you while still having less responsibility then if you really worked there. Some internships are paid, some aren't. I have usually had paid ones and a little more is expected of you if you are to get paid for the work. To find one, first find something that interests you career wise. Then find a few local businesses and see if they have any opportunities. You can simply call them or write an email to the Human Resources dept and they are usually pretty helpful. Sometimes there are specific requirements or applications to fill out and some require training. I would definitely recommend it as a way to get your foot in the door for a future career!
