Its a planned trip to somewhere.  So for example if you could visit Japan where would you go?  You would write up your itinerary, which would include when you would arrive, where you would stay, places to see and do while you were there, and when you go back home.  Some countries (such as China) require travelers to submit an itinerary proposal before they will grant a visa for visiting their country.  They want to know where you are going and what you will be doing when you get there.
