What is an osteocyte?

What is matrix? Every site is saying that, but I have no clue.

  1. Matrix is the network of collagen found in our bones..

    Osteocytes are mature bone cells.


  2. These are bone making cells (osteoblasts) that have become trapped in bone. The "matrix" is is mainly mineralized type 1 collagen.  

    While trapped, they are still connected to other cells, undergo nutrient exchange and cell-cell communication. Their primary function is to maintain bone.  

  3. osteocyte is a bone mature cell and they cant divide (osteoblast is a young cell that can divide) between the cell there is a substantia that is called matrix and it has kolagen and chondroitin sulfate (the matrix is produced by the osteoblast)
