What is an oxygen sensor? Is this the same as the trac off sensor that senses the car's friction of it's tires?

How many sensors does a car have and are the oxygen sensors the same sensors as the one that triggers "trac off" to go off? The motion sensor that senses that traction of the tires?

  1. oxygen sensors measure the amount of unburned hydro carbon in your car exhaust.     there may be one sensor or two.

there are sensors all over your car, measuring all sorts of things....

  2. The oxygen sensor help's keep the emission system in check and when one of them go out your check engine light will come on to let you know that you have a problem with the emission's system, No the trac- off sensor is'nt the same as the oxygen sensor, the trac-off sensor keeps all of the tire's stopping all together,so that you don't have just one wheel trying to stop the car ,it alows all of them to work together,

  3. the o2 sensor is used to monitor the efficiency of the engine by measuring the oxygen content of the exhaust after the engine has forced it out.

the traction control system looks at axle speeds at all four points to see if the readings are close to each other. the vss is used for this and a few other reasons such as abs control.

  4. Your car has 2 oxygen sensors I belive on that model. The front oxygen sensors read the exhaust gasses as they pass by and determine weather your engine needs to run leaner or richen up. It has a direct effect on the engines performance. The 2nd sensor is after the catalytic converter as is a diagnostic tool only. It tells the pcm how clean the emissions that are getting past the catalytic converter are. The second sensor does not affect engine performance but it can still set a check engine light.

There are sensors for almost every aspect of the engine. There are 5-7 computers on new cars and they all get information from the sensors. Your traction controll is determined by the wheel speed sensors that are at each wheel.

  5. The car has hundreds of sensors if not thousands. Oxygen sensor detect how much oxygen is in the exhaust fumes to help the engine burn the right amount of gas. The trac off is using the wheel sensors. That one sense how fast and which wheels are rotating to help the braking system stop and help it stop spinngin on snow.

  6. 02 sensors monitors the gas stream and signals the computer.
