What is an "island of stability."

What limits the nucleus' size.

Why does the half-life matter.

And anything else similar you think of. This time, keep it technical, even "wonky."

  1. Island of stability- The current elements that have high atomic numbers are very unstable and have a tendancy to quickly decay into other elements(after a millionth of a second or something like that), however some people believe that if we make atoms that have a high enough atomic number we'll get to stable atoms.

Limit to a nucleus size- maybe the protons pushing again each other makes it unlikely for more to be added to the atom.  Not as sure about this one as other two, check out the source I listed, it discusses limits to nucleus size.

Half life refers to the time it takes for half of a element to undergo radioactive decay.
