  1. A cliche is something that is overused or overdone - often something that has become a tired stereotype.

It can be verbal - "Crikey!" When Australians hear this term (before Steve Irwin died, at least) we cringe since it has become cliche.

It can be physical - it has become cliche for French people to wear berets.

A cliche is  an expression or idea that has lost its originality or force through overuse.

  2. my definition would be something that is familiar, and percieved as corny and over-used. crying at a wedding for example.

  3. use the google dictionary

  4. Basically, something that's been so over-used, it's now the expected. According to webster, overly familiar and commonplace.

For instance: A "valley girl" saying "Like, totally!" would be a cliche.

A goth wearing black is cliche.

A "jock" picking on a "nerd" is cliche.

A movie with a "ugly" girl who is picked on until she gets a make-over (or...takes off her ugly hat) and then everyone thinks she's hot, and the hot guy really liked her all along...that's a cliche.

  5. overused expression.

    hope that's helpful!

  6. "Cliché" applies also to almost any situation, subject, characterization, figure of speech, or object—in short, any sign—that has become overly familiar or commonplace.

  7. anything that has become commonplace through overuse.

  8. As other people said, an expression or scenario that is overused and becomes unoriginal and commonplace.

    cliche expressions:

"Every cloud has a silver lining."

"Don't put off tomorrow what you can do today."

    " A piece of cake."

    Also:

The idea that being "all-american" involves apple pie, goldon retreivers, church and a happy family.

  9. Watch sports on TV. Especially player-interviews. Ever heard "We gave 110%?"  Take each game as it comes? Never up, never in? Drive for show, putt for dough? If you've heard it a million times, its a cliché.

  10. something that is used as a very common expression and is not always true.

  11. I couldn't find anything.  I looked it up too.   I'm sorry.  I wish I was help.

  12. An overused expression of speech, a tired form of repeated thought, a belabored turn of phrase. . . .

  13. a cliche is a statement, quality, or expression that may sound interesting at first, but has been used many times - making it unoriginal and stale

  14. Hmmm... how about

-identical twins who look exactly alike but are complete opposites?

-the quivering lip damsel in distress

    - the dumb blond cheerleader

    - the rough, undereducated, redneck

    - the hooker with a heart of gold.

    These are examples of cliches.
