i'm 15 & my family & i are going to california in about a month.

my step dad said we won't be able to take any liquids,

like body spray or anything with us. no toothpaste or anything.

i was worried about my makeup, which is mostly solid except for my foundation.

will i be able to take the foundation & lip gloss with me?

last august my step dad & mom went to hawaii

& my mom bought a 1.7 oz bottle of Coach perfume.

here's a picture to get an idea of the size & look:

& she was able to bring it back with her on the plane home.

my step dad said maybe she was able to bring it because it was clear? & you could see through to the liquid inside?

so maybe since my foundation container is clear i'll be able to take it?

just wondering:D

please help.

thankyou<3

  1. You *can* bring liquids that come in a container under 3 fl.oz. As long as your body spray, toothpaste, and liquid makeup are 3 fl.oz. or smaller in volume (check the bottle), you can put them in ONE sandwich-sized, seal-able Ziplock bag and bring them in your carry on.

Regular sized liquids are allowed in your checked luggage, but I'd suggest putting them in gallon-sized Ziplocks or inside a plastic grocery bag - sometimes the change in pressure in the aircraft's cargo area can force liquids out of their containers and onto the contents of your suitcase - yikes! Better safe than sorry, I say.

Here is the link to the TSA website - you can print that page out and show it to your stepdad, if you'd like: http://www.tsa.gov/311/index.shtm

Hope that helps, and have a great trip!

  2. OK. The US laws seem identical to the UK laws we have here. We're allowed bottles up to 100ml (=3 oz). It doesn't matter what's inside, it's just volume that is important. You're allowed a small plastic sealed bag in your hand luggage (carry on). If that's not enough for you, then why not put it in the hold luggage? Or buy in California? Your stepdad is wrong though, you can take liquids and colour or transparency makes no difference.

  3. i fly into CA all the time, i actually just got in Tuesay! here ya go..the rules for the liquids is that you can take anything 3 oz and under ON the airplane, in your carry-on bag but the bottles all have to fit into a quart size ziploc, which they will give you at the airport, and then when it comes to body spray and things over 3 oz. you can pack them in your bag that you are checking, but i suggest, from experience, that you make sure to wrap everything liquid that you put with you checked bag, in a grocery bag in case it leaks it doesn't get everywhere!!!

  4. I suggest that you go to the web site of the airline you are flying or to the Homeland Security web site and see what they suggest.

I do know that you are only allowed to take bottles/containers that are 3 ounces or less. The liquid, gel or bottle being clear has nothing to do with it, its the size of the bottle or container. You can take your toothpaste, body spray, foundation, etc. These 3 ounce bottles/containers need to fit into a quart sized ziploc sandwich bag. This bag in turn needs to be removed from your purse or carry on and placed on the belt to go through the Xray machine to be hand looked at if necessary. You can take your makeup, but it has to fit in this one bag.

Remember this is for carryon luggage only, you can take a gallon size container of your shampoo, a full sized body spray, a full sized toothpaste, etc, but that has to go into your checked bag.

  5. Advice from camona is really accurate. I can support this advice as being right as I currently work at an airport.
