These are usually known as Coffee Machines, or Expresso Machines, they are for making a certain type of Coffee known as the expresso.

If you're talking about a drip coffeemaker, it's also called a percolator.  However, espresso machines and french presses also have filters in them, they just don't need to be replaced (or at least not nearly as often).

I find it pretty unbelievable how many people here misspelled percolator...
