i found out that my k frame needs replaced in my 96 cavalier. i wanted to look up some information on it online, but searching for K frame(thats what my mechanic called it) doesnt bring any info up!

i was wondering if it was called something else, and if anyone had any info on it. I want to know as much info about my car as possible(this is my first car) so any info is appreciated. im getting my frame totally replaced in about a week, but i am still driving it every so often, i drive careful and avidly avoid hitting potholes.

oH! and i started hearing a whinning/grinding noise coming from what sounded like my engine, ive posted on here before about how my car has a problem starting when its cold or rather if i get it started it will start fine if i turn it off but trying to get it started after it has just sat there is getting ridiculous. in the past pressing on the gas pedal has worked but now it doesnt work as well....

any ideas....

THANKS!

  1. Engine crossmember

    Engine cradle

The problem with Cavaliers and Sunfires is that they utilize a half engine cradle that attaches to the motor mount and unibody but not the radiator support.  They can be damaged but I would be looking more to the motor mounts unless the cradle is actually broken.
